FIFAD has a mission to increase access to financial services and products by the rural masses by providing affordable financial services in a sustainable and responsible manner in the agriculture and agri-business community/sector in an effort to alleviate poverty.

FIFAD was mainly established in the quest of advancing agriculture sector while ensuring poverty alleviation through increased agri-commercial productivity for the export market. Hence the institution specializes in provision of agricultural input and operational loans in form of cash, solar irrigation kits as well as farm inputs to farmer based organizations, individuals, public and private institutions with prioritization of the rural masses.
The objectives of FIFAD include but not limited to the following:
1.To develop skills among the people in urban and rural communities through training in loan management and Agribusiness.
2.To bring financial products and services close to the rural agricultural community through client participatory approach to improve their living standards.
3.To develop a business that will reduce levels of unemployment by providing agricultural finance services that aim at creating employment

4. Livestock loans (e.g. Mlimi Alirenji Dairy loan)
5. Solar irrigation starter pack kit.

FISD Finance for Agriculture Development (FIFAD) formerly known as FISD FUND is a wholly owned subsidiary undertaking of FISD Limited Company incorporated under the Company Act. FIFAD is a financing institution which largely focuses on agricultural financing. The institution was registered as a micro-credit agency by the registrar of financial institutions of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM). Meanwhile FIFAD has applied for licencing to upgrade from a Microcredit Agency to Deposit Taking Microfinance Institution. The Company perceives an unfulfilled client need for agricultural loans, business opportunities and skills development to overcome poverty in Malawi.
