The final phase of the Dowa Dambo Irrigation Scheme is underway — installation of 42 solar-powered submersible pumps that will complete this transformative project.
Currently, beneficiary farmers are irrigating 50 hectares using water from the 250,000m³ dam. With these pumps, the scheme will expand to irrigate 400 hectares, unlocking greater agricultural productivity.
💧 The 42 boreholes will collectively pump 430 litres per second of water 📦 The water will be directed to a 10,000m³ reservoir for storage and distribution 🚰 One borehole is dedicated to delivering potable water to the farming community ☀️ All pumps will be powered by a 535kW solar array made up of 1,080 panels
From powering productivity to delivering clean water, this marks a major step toward sustainability and resilience in Dowa.
