The mlooka irrigation Scheme is donning a green view that is undoubtedly the impact of the high tech irrigation system that FISD Limited Company installed. The farmers have grown rice whose green view boasts of the richness of the water being supplied. At this scheme water is pumped from the Shire River via two Grundfos submersible pumps with a capacity of 229 litres per second each. These pumps are driven by a 288killowat solar array of 570 solar modules. The water is then conveyed to a 10,000 cubic meters reservoir, some one and a half kilometer away, for both storage and supply to a 138 hectare farm-land. From the current green view of the scheme it is evident that the farming community is on its superhighway to food and income security. Thanks to the international Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) for funding the project through the Malawi Government’s Programme for Rural irrigation Development (PRIDE)
